Not by what you see or by what people whisper in your ear. That's the way most people's lives are driven. We're still on the subject of the Holy Spirit. Let's listen.

and in a deep valley, you will be. Are you doing everything right now to deepen the reservoir of truth in your life so you have the equipment to get out the other side of trouble?
....can't help noticing people who are full of life. God has no dead friends. This week we're talking about the Living God.
The world at large seems to be falling apart on every front. And the world between our own two feet sometimes feels the same. Life's daily necessities alone, even when things are going pretty smoothly, can become overwhelming. Now add to that the unexpected. In the end, the most important way to keep it all together and to reach the finish line is to make a real effort to stop. Listen and see what we mean.
I know lot of people who truly do know quite a bit about God. But knowing God really is a different deal. I know a lot about (pick a famous person and insert) but don't know him/her, never had a conversation, and certainly Famous Person doesn't know I even exist, let alone care. But in the case of THE Famous Person, do you truly truly really really want to know Him, and know Him in a very personal way. That means having real conversation, challenging Him with what really counts inside you and then having Him actually respond. And not only responding but then DOING something in you. Beginning to make changes in you that you know didn't come or couldn't come from within yourself, mainly because you really know yourself and realize those changes couldn't have come from within you. A power and ability that somehow you truly know you didn't have.
This all begins when you realize that Elohim-Adoni-Yahweh-Jehovah Jireh (and a few more names we haven't yet discussed) made promises regarding you. Promises that He intends to keep. But promises you have very possibly not yet "called Him out on" as the expression goes. Go ahead. Call Him out on those promises He's made regarding you. Let's keep listenting. We have a tremendous responsibility for which we will be held accountable when we stand before the Living God. But don't fear, the Lord Himself will help us make our way. First let's consider just Who He Is.
For those of us who have lived long enough, most have had some event occur which toppled the expected routine of life as we knew it. We had to completely readjust to a new normal. There is never a reason for hopelessness in our lives.
We've heard the salvation message in church countless times, and as simple as it is, it's always a bit perplexing how something so simple can be so difficult to convey at times.
The things that clutter our life:
We buy the stuff We clean the stuff We display the stuff We manage the stuff We repair the stuff We replace the stuff and in the end we store the stuff. Another look at an old parable. We actually had someone say this to us when we lived in Salt Lake a number of years ago. It was during the 2007-08 financial debacle. In our discussion he asked us what's the worst and we replied we could go bankrupt! "So what's the worst that can happen?" he responds. "We could end up living in the car!" "Thank God; you have a car".
How do you respond to that kind of counsel when you're feeling hard pressed. Bottom line is that we knew he was right. We forgot who was in charge. |
